What are first signs of Summer? Is it when you first notice the trees are full? Or perhaps the first bumble bee that you see? Or maybe the first time you drive around with the AC on. Or perhaps it's a skinny, smiling man who's head melts when it gets too hot. . . Of course, we're talking about Mister Softee. We heard the familiar chimes from the Mister Softee truck this afternoon and we went running for our money! So, even though the calendar may say differently, as far as we're concerned. . . Summer is here. Here's the truck as it appeared in front of our house today: And here's the rear view of the truck: And here it is -- today -- playing that familiar theme song.
According to Wikipedia, there are actually words to this song: "The creamiest, dreamiest soft ice cream, you get from Mister Softee. For a refreshing delight supreme, look for Mister Softee. Milkshakes and my sundaes and cones are such a treat, Listen for my store on wheels, ding-a-ling down the street. The creamiest, dreamiest soft ice cream, you get from Mister Softee. For a refreshing delight supreme, look for Mister Softee. S-O-F-T Double 'E', Mister Softee." A while back they passed a law that these trucks could only play this music while moving - in other words, they couldn't just sit in front of your house and play this tune over and over. Most of the time, in Woodhaven at least, it appears that the trucks aren't abiding by this law, but no one really complains about it. They're probably too busy eating their cones before they melt!
