This week, the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association held their monthly Town Hall Meeting, as they do on the third Wednesday of every month. The meetings are held at the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps (78-15 Jamaica Avenue) and begin at 8 PM. We wanted to try a few different things this month, chief amongst them was a new seating arrangement. Instead of the traditional speaker/audience setup that had been used for many years, we switched to a horseshoe arrangement so that everyone was sitting at the same table. We're all part of the same team -- we have the same troubles and the same worries and we have to work towards the solutions together.
After a number of appearances by our elected officials and guests -- which we will cover in upcoming reports -- we were left with a little time to experiment and get the audience -- the residents of Woodhaven -- to speak out on the issues that concern them. We didn't want to spend too long on any single issue -- this was more of a brainstorming session to get all of the issues out on the table. And because we started this experiment late in the evening, we needed to keep it short and came up with a novel way to do so. Here is Part I of the residents of Woodhaven letting us know what's bothering them --
Now that we've gathered an initial list, we can begin tackling them as a group, which we will begin doing at the next meeting (Wednesday, September 16th). We had a good crowd this month -- more folks than we've had for a long time -- but we really need much more participation. Hopefully, after you watch these videos -- especially the next one which ends with a good laugh -- you'll consider joining us in order to help make Woodhaven all it can be again.
