While the real estate market has certainly deflated over the last few months, you'll certainly never see prices like this again! Act fast! Below is the Sackett Bulletin, from April 1951 -- it appears that Mr. Sackett may have mailed these bulletins out to prospective buyers.
Although 13 to 15K for a house sounds cheap, it would be an expensive purchase if you were only making 100 to 150 dollars a week. And considering that the average yearly wage in the US was $2,547.70 in 1951, they were probably out of the range of most folks.
Sackett Realtors were long-time residents of Jamaica Avenue, sticking around well into the 1970s. Below is an advertisement they placed in a P.S. 60 Annual in 1975 in which they stated they had served Woodhaven for 32 years, meaning they opened up shop on Jamaica Avenue around 1943.
Although there is a Real Estate Office in this 1985 photo of Jamaica Avenue, it's actually the lot next door -- Connie's Dress Shop -- that sits at 92-16 Jamaica Avenue.
This space is currently occupied by Metropolitan Pawn Brokers.
