In this, the second of our reports of the Greater Woodhaven Development Corporations 30th Annual Spring Dance, we bring you some of the highlights. Our first report, which you can see here, covered the visit by a surprise guest, Mayor Mike Bloomberg. For starters, Le Cordon Bleu has been a topic of much discussion lately -- and we're happy to report that they did an outstanding job renovating it. The lobby is beautiful -- and there was a nice waterfall near the stairs. We hadn't been inside Le Cordon Bleu in many years, so we're not sure if that waterfall is brand new or not.
Each year (since 1991) the GWDC honors those that have served and benefitted Woodhaven. Here is a list of past honorees:
At the entrance to the room, the awards that this year's honorees were to receive were on display.
Below is a table full of prizes that were to be raffled off. At right is the ballroom just before the dance began.
The crowd begins assembling:
Here is Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer with this year's honorees:
At left, Woodhaven Residents' Association President Vance Barbour with Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley. At right, honoree Maureen Bermingham receives an award. Both Ms. Crowley and newly elected Councilman Eric Ulrich were on hand to congratulate the honorees.
Below, Joseph T. Schmidt and Dr. Dennis Pazos receive their awards. Each honoree will be covered in more detail in upcoming reports.
Below, New York Senator Joe Addabbo addresses the audience.
Below is Woodhaven resident Claire Kramer. This charming lady asked us to take her picture and make sure it got on the site as a way of saying hello to her daughter. How could we possibly resist?
The music played well into the evening and, after some encouragement, people began to dance.
Below is the lovely Ms. Thomson and her husband, Robert.
The master of ceremonies, Stephen Esposito and his lovely wife.
Here are some more pictures of the festivities:
The music was provided by a DJ and the Doo Wop Group, "The Four Pops" --
And let's wrap up this report with some Doo Wop music from "The Four Pops."
