The rain has been falling hard this past week -- hard, fast and plentiful -- washing away our memories of Winter as we move into Spring . . .

And with the Spring rain, comes the greening of Woodhaven.  The grass begins to grow, the leaves fill the trees . . . enjoy these pictures of Woodhaven as it makes the easy transition from Winter to Spring . . .

It happens so quickly -- one weekend, you're out shopping, driving around the neighborhood, and the trees are still bare.  And then, the next weekend, you suddenly notice that your grass needs cut and that the trees are filling up . . .

And whereas you used to be able to look through the woods, your view is now painted green . . . here's a wonderful view overlooking Woodhaven just at the end of Park Lane South

When you drive through Forest park there's green all around you, on both sides of the road and above you.

And even better than driving through the park, you can always park your car and walk.  There are plenty of benches where you can sit and rest, or just sit and relax and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.

It's when you look at Woodhaven from the park that you see how the trees create a natural canopy that covers the neighborhood.  That canopy will come in handy when it heats up, providing shade we can cool off under.

Look down the street in the picture below, and towards the right and you can see some nice areas of dark, cool shade.  It's a beautiful time of year.

There are other colors besides green -- look at the picture below at left for an example of how different colored trees stand out and give the block character.  These pictures below were taken in Woodhaven manor, round 96th Street.  The picture on the right is further along the block.

Back again on Park Lane South, this is a beautiful scene -- one you could imagine an artist sitting down to paint.  We'll be revisiting the park steps this weekend.

Once again, it's not just green in the air -- the picture at left was taken near 95th Street (across from where St. Anthony's used to sit).  And the picture at right shows some of the leaves that have fallen (from a tree near the FDNY Dispatch Building on Woodhaven Boulevard).  It looks like confetti, doesn't it?

Even when you're on Jamaica Avenue, you don't have to look far to see some green.

We took this picture driving through the park -- the golf course.  It wasn't that long ago that we were crawling through a hole in the fence to see the sleigh riders going down the Soup Bowl!

Again, here's that canopy effect we referred to earlier.  Once these trees fill up completely, some blocks will seem like your driving through a leafy tunnel.  I believe this was 88th Street, just south of Forest Park.

And one last shot to end this tour, one of Woodhaven's many stray cats, enjoying a few moments in the grass.
