It's hard to believe that it's been eight years -- and, at times, it seems like yesterday.  And everyone has their own 9-11 experience -- the modern day equivalent to "Where were you when Kennedy was shot?"  Except in so many cases, the people telling the story often knew someone who perished in the attacks -- either in one of the two towers, at the Pentagon, or in a field in Pennsylvania.

On Spetember 22nd The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation reconvened after taking the summer off -- and this time in new digs -- a schoolroom in St. Thomas the Apostle.  Below, GWDC Executive Director Maria Thomson greets our new Assemblyman, Mike Miller.

The color guard was presented by the ROTC of Franklin K. Lane.  They came out and stood at attention while the room recited "The Pledge of Allegiance."

Now, beacuse it was also "Candidate Night" we had a number of elected officials, candidates, and representatives on hand -- and one-by-one people came up to the front and shared their recollections of that day.  Pictured below (and shown in the video below that), Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, City Councilman Eric Ulrich, Democatic District Leader Lew Simon, Candidate for City Council Frank Gulluscio, GWDC's Maria Thomson, Woodhaven Residents' Block Association President Vance Barbour, and Sgt. Sean McCabe.

Here is some touching video of their recollections of that day -- and in some cases, the months and years that followed:

Next we turned out the lights -- and observed a moment of silence holding aloft glow sticks which had been handed out earlier.

Afterwards, the group stood together and sang "God Bless America."

Here is some video of the moment of silence and "God Bless America."

It was a very touching ceremony -- and many thanks to all who attended and all who shared.
