Woodhaven residents' are familiar with the Street Fair, which is held every October (click here for details on this year's fair). Richmond Hill has a similar, albeit smaller, event and this year's fair was held Saturday, September 12th. It was held at the intersection of Park Lane South and Myrtle Avenue and sponsored by The Richmond Hill Block Association. Unfortunately, the weather was uncooperative and although it never quite poured, it spritzed and drizzled all day long which may have kept away some vendors and some of the crowd. But those that did attend had a great time.
The fair extended in two directions. One wing went along the road up into Forest Park and contained most of the vendors selling trinkets and T-Shirts, etc. The other wind went along Myrtle where there were some used books and other cheap items, food, and rides for the kids.
This lovely little pup is named Amelia and she was prepared in case it began to pour. Smart pup!
They had a stage set up at the intersection and a string of local bands entertaining the crowds all day long. At left is Behold Thy Burden, a Blue Grass band that was pretty interesting to watch. At at right is Nightwing, a Woodhaven-based band that plays a lot of 60s and 70's Rock Classics.
Here is a brief video of the fair, with background music provided by both bands.
As the afternoon went on, the clouds really started to look ominous and people began to pack up. It's a shame -- you plan all year for something like this and then Mother Nature puts a damper on it.
We'll wrap this up with a shot of Project Woodhaven friend and contributor Bobby "Flash" Gennaro, also a member of Nightwing.
Check it out! His hands are so fast they're just a blur! Bobby had his video camera with him as well and here's his video coverage of the day --
All in all, a fun event. If you have any comments, or would like to suggest other projects, drop us a line at info@projectwoodhaven.com or projectwoodhaven@aol.com.
