Almost every month, at the 102nd Precinct Community Council meeting, Captain Armando DeLeon presents the "Cop of the Month."  This is an award presented by the Times Newsweekly.  This month's awardee is Officer Robert Townsend, who apprehended some burglars.  These burglars would scope out a home -- and strike.  Let's let Captain DeLeon describe what happened -- and pay attention -- and remember, there could always be someone watching!

That's chilling, isn't it?  These thugs had a list of homes they were going to hit next.  Who knows, one of them could have been yours.  Many thanks to Officer Townsend -- and good luck to him in the canine unit.  We've heard that could be a little ruff :-)

It was nice that his parents were there -- and we're glad they got their picture taken with their son on this proud occasion.

The rest of the meeting was mostly the Captain talking to the residents.  We asked him about the residents' security patrol.  We have been trying to get it up and running again -- with very little success, I might add -- but the Captain advises us that this might not be the best time to have residents patrolling the streets.

So, we'll need to step back and rethink this.  Captain DeLeon is a former graduate of Franklin K. Lane so he's very familiar with our neighborhood.

The 102nd Precinct Community Council meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. The next meeting will be on May 18th at 8:00 PM and all are invited to attend.  It is held at the Moose Hall (across the street from the 102nd) at 87-34 118th Street.  Next week they will be holding elections for the board members of the Community Council.  In order to vote, your name has to have shown up in the sign-in book 3 times over the course of the last year.  Below, you see a number of people lining up to make sure they are signed in and eligible to vote.  We'll bring you the results next month!
