2011 UPDATE: Due to popular demand, another night of Supermarket Bingo has been scheduled. Friday, February 11 (next Friday) from 7 to 9 PM (doors open at 6:30). Admission is $10 which gets you 3 cards that you play with all-night, a drink and a snack. Additional refreshments will be available. Additional cards can be purchased for $1. There will be 2 money games in addition to supermarket prizes. We went last year and had a great time -- can't wait until next Friday! Here's our report from last year:
St. Thomas held a night of "Supermarket Bingo" last Friday Night at Monsignor Mulz Hall and they had a very nice turnout. It was our first time at Bingo ever, and we had a terrific time. And judging by everyone else's take on the evening, there are a lot of people hoping that they'll do it again.
The simplicity of the game -- along with the tension that mounts with each call -- is what's led Bingo to become popular for generation. What I liked about it was the good natured humor that accompanied the game. The balls were called by Margie Schmidt (of Schmidt's Candies, below) and she traded jokes with the players.
As you can see, it was a good turnout. We came close to winning a special jackpot of 63 bucks -- all we needed was N41. But it never came and that was the maddening part -- waiting and hearing ball after ball drop - and none of them the ball you need! Fun stuff!
Cathy -- who was playing right next to me -- got a diagonal Bingo and she was very happy. They gave out a bag of groceries for each bingo winner -- hence the name Supermarket Bingo.
They also had a few door prizes -- gift certificates from Sal's Pizza and the Avenue Diner. Here are some more pictures of those who came out to have fun with their neighbors --
We'll keep you up to date and let you know when the next event is scheduled. If you have any comments, or would like to suggest other projects, drop us a line at info@projectwoodhaven.com or projectwoodhaven@aol.com .
