Here's the first in a series of photographic experiments.  We took these photos this morning (Sunday, April 11, 2010) on the steps into Forest Park at Forest Parkway and Park Lane South.  We arrived at the park around 5:40 AM and snapped around 1 picture per minute until 07:00.  In an effort to keep the timing consistent, we took each picture a few seconds after the light crossing Park Lane South turned red -- and as soon as the light on Park Lane South turned green.

We also tried to snap our pictures when there were no cars in the intersection, but as we got further into the day that became more difficult as more and more people woke up and hit the road.  It was so nice and peaceful this morning, sitting there watching the intersection.  Lots of birds were out, talking to each other -- probably wondering what the nutcase with the tripod in the dark was doing :-)

It remained nice and peaceful, even with the slight increase in traffic, until around 6:15 AM when an impatient driver started leaning on his horn.  The light had just turned green, but apparently the car in front of him didn't move fast enough, so he started beeping.  Rude little dork.

As the sky grew brighter and brighter, the lights at the intersection began to pop-off -- one by one.  And, finally, 80 minutes after we began, the sun was up and it was time to move along.

Here is an animation of this morning's sunrise -- this may take a while to load, but by the time you read all this stuff above, it should be finished:

And, finally, we also made a video of the sunrise --

All in all, we're real happy with the results.  But even if we weren't, it was a wonderful, peaceful morning -- a great way to start the day :-)
