If you are watching the Oscars this evening, they will undoubtedly show a highlight reel from past shows -- and a moment starring Woodhaven's own Adrien Brody will certainly be featured.
It was March 23rd, 2003 -- and Adrien was nominated for Best Picture for The Pianist. A veteran of over 20 movies including The Thin Red Line and the Summer of Sam. Here is the trailer for The Pianist:
It was a powerhouse performance in a terrific film -- and the media quickly began to pay attention to Adrien -- check out this feature from CBS News.
Brody, a 29-year-old who lives in Los Angeles, wasn't always a Hollywood kid. He has fond memories of his New York City roots where he attended LaGuardia High School of Performance Arts.
"I broke my leg in high school and I had to take a train with crutches," says Brody. "The only train that goes to my neighborhood is the 'J,' which is like the most ghetto train."
Um, okay . . .
Anyway, Adrien had some pretty stiff competition that evening for Best Actor. Check out this impressive lineup of talent: Jack Nicholson (About Schmidt), Nicolas Cage (Adaptation), Daniel Day-Lewis (Gangs of New York), and Michael Caine (The Quiet American). But when the award was announced -- Adrien came out on top!
The Academy Awards does not allow people to embed their You Tube Videos. But you can click here to view Adrien's Winning Moment.
The famous moment, if you recall, was when Adrien won the award and took to the stage and planted a big kiss on Halle Berry's lips.
