On this country's 235th birthday -- the celebration of our independence -- we take a look at a recent celebration of our flag, which was held in the schoolyard of St. Thomas the Apostle on Flag Day. The students, teachers, and parents held a wonderful ceremony, giving anyone who attended their own flag. And special thanks to the American Legion, who sponsored the event --
The students gave presentations about what our flag represents, and they sang a medley of beloved patriotic songs -- it's good to see the schools instilling these values, particularly the message of unity -- that no matter where we come from, we're all Americans. We're united. It's a message our elected officials in Washington should be forced to re-learn.
It was a beautiful day for a flag ceremony --
Here is some video from that day -- enjoy the presentation!
Here are some more photos from the schoolyard -- those of you who went to St. Thomas will no doubt enjoy seeing it again -- perhaps it will even bring back some memories!
The students paraded around the schoolyard, waving their flags in the air --
Were we ever that young? I seem to recall being that young but it was many, many years ago :-)
Congratulations to St. Thomas the Apostle and the American Legion for a job well done -- and a big thumb's up to the students of St. Thomas the Apostle for making us proud!
