Yesterday, we were driving up Woodhaven Boulevard when we glanced over at the Carousel -- and it looked like the gates were rolled up. It seemed like you could see light shining through from the other side. Now, we were over by Victory Field, in a car going 50 MPH -- and our eyes are old and tired -- but we were almost certain that the Carousel looked open. One problem -- we didn't have our camera. So we turned around and came home, got our camera, and zipped up to the park.
And sure enough, all the gates were rolled up -- around the entire perimeter of the Carousel. However, they were just starting to roll the gates down! Mrs. Project Woodhaven (aka The Shark) gets all the credit for this -- she hopped out of the car, climbed the hill and got a few shots -- here's one she got just outside the gates --
And when she got closer, she managed to get a few shots of the horses before the gates came down. She spoke to one of the Parks Department guys who was very nice, but couldn't let her inside to take better pictures (he said it was because of insurance reasons). She asked what they were doing, but he couldn't say.
They look great, don't they? The Carousel appears to be in very good shape. Perhaps they are getting it prepped to show to some potential vendors?
When this thing finally re-opens we're going to take a zillion pictures of it :-) It's just such a bummer that we have to act like Ninjas and feel like Crooks to get these few shots -- the gates weren't open for long, and it was just a case of fortuitous timing that we were able to get these!
Wish we had more shots to share -- but it's good to see that it's in such good shape. We'll keep our ears close to the ground and as soon as we hear anything, we'll share it with you.
