In the wake of Hurricane Irene, we took a tour of Woodhaven and showed you some of the damage left behind. The carnage has mostly been cleared away, trees and branches removed -- but where do they go? Many of them, as you'll see below, ended up in the parking lot by our bandshell in Forest Park -- it's a massive pile of debris, trunks and stumps -- many of the trees having been cut into pieces, the rings revealing how old they were -- sometimes the rotted insides revealing we were lucky the trees hadn't fallen sooner.
It's a sad end for many trees in our community --
The center of this tree was hollow and looks rotted --
From certain angles, as the sun set, it was actually a little eerie -- definitely not a sight you see every day --
Some of the smaller branches with leaves were compressed into big squares -- kinda looked like a farm.
A lot of jagged edges suggested a violent end --
This tree took out park of the surrounding ground. It's starting to get dark --
Time for us to say good night to Irene. If you get a chance, swing by the parking lot to see the pile -- pictures do not do it proper justice.
