BUILDING COLLAPSE AT 79TH & JAMAICA

Just after 6:30 PM a major portion of the building at the corner of 79th Street and Jamaica Avenue collapsed.  Bricks rained down upon the street, crushing one vehicle.  There are no reported injuries at this time. This building is directly next door to the Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps. which houses the Woodhaven Senior Center. Trains were stopped out of fear that the vibration would cause further collapse.  Buses were diverted on to side streets as Jamaica Avenue was shut down.  We'll be talking about this live at 10 PM tonight - click here.
