2015 SANTA PARADE
The annual Santa Parade, sponsored by the Woodhaven Business Improvement District, is a much beloved event here in Woodhaven. We've covered it many times (see 2009, or 2010, or 2011, or 2012). Last year it was rained out -- and this year was going to be very different because not only were we covering it, we were marching in it with the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society and the St. Thomas the Apostle Woodhaven History Club. Here is the 2015 Santa parade video:
People were arriving early to take pics with Santa.
Mike Bilski from the East Coast Car Association came by with his car, all decked out for Christmas.
The studetns from St. Thomas the Apostle Woodhaven History Club showed up early to show off their banner.
The Woodhaven Business Improvement District was handing out Santa Hats. The Historical Society brought along some reindeer antlers to give to our members, just for a little variety.
The parade is great for kids of all ages!
Assemblyman Mike Miller with the students representing the Woodhaven Cultural & Historical Society and the St. Thomas the Apostle Woodhaven History Club.
This kid was on the Woodhaven Residents' Block Association's T-ball Team - it was good to see him marching with us. He was having fun, can you tell?
Everyone was getting anxious for the parade to start!
Once we started marching it got tough to take pictures -- of the parade. It was easier to take pictures of the people watching the parade!
Here's our crew at 92nd and Jamaica. We started at 96th and we're heading to Dexter Court, so we're not even halfway yet.
Giedra Kregzdys, Vice-President of teh WRBA and Arlene Annunziata, Director of the WRBA, having fun.
The response from the people who did come out to watch was great. We had a lot of people smiling and waving.
The 2 best hats in the 2015 Parade, Tracey and Jaron Gallagher.
There was a lot of stop and go. Sometimes the parade would pick up speed and you'd find yourself in a trot. Other times, you were standing and waiting. Who cares? it was fun!
What a great sight on Jamaica Avenue!
Some more friendly faces.
