The Richmond Hill Park Fair

UPDATE:  This year, 2011, the Richmond Hill Park Fair will be held on Saturday, September 10th, from 10 AM to 6 PM.  There will be vendors, live music, lots of great food -- what a great way to spend the day in the park.  And there will be a special 9/11 ceremony around noon.

Here is the 2010 Park Fair --

Last year, the Richmond Hill Block Association's Park Fair was held under gloomy skies, with a dash of rain.  We were there and posted this report.  This year, the RHBA chose their date wisely and they ended up with an absolutely perfect day.  We were there this year at a table, up on the hill, blissfully in the shade -- many, many thanks to the RHBA for their hospitality.

Though these events usually take on a patriotic flair, this year was especially so as it fell on September 11th.

It was, as stated above, a gorgeous day.  If you were sitting on Myrtle Avenue it paid to be under a tent because the sun was strong.

This was the view we had :-)  We had a wonderful day in the park, speaking with people as they passed by our table.  We had some really cool Woodhaven -- 11421 T-Shirts to sell -- and we made about 35 bucks on the day for the WRBA -- but the best part was just sitting in the shade, relaxing, having fun.

Oh, and if you love dogs it was a great place to dogwatch -- lots of folks took their dogs to the fair -- this was our favorite :-)

Later, the action moved to the street -- there was a Karate Demo --

And then our elected officials took to the stage --

This 9-11 memorial was amazing -- it was created by the RHBA.  It contains the names and/or photographs of all the victims of that horrible day.  That is one outstanding job they did -- our hats are off to you!

Here, Sen. Joe Addabbo accepts and award and speak with the crowd --

And Mike Miller, Elizabeth Crowley, and Eric Ulrich, were also on hand --

It was a few days before the Primary so everyone was out.  Below, Anthony Como and Nick Commianni.

Here was a nice moment -- this woman received an award for the work she does cleaning up the neighborhood.  If you've traveled Jamaica Avenue, you've seen her.  In the morning, she was telling us that she was going to win an award -- and that afternoon, she ran up the hill to show us!  She's a very nice lady!

And finally, Woodhaven based Nightwing took to the stage to entertain the crowd --

Here is our video from that day --

We pray that we get good weather on Sunday, October 10th, the date of the Woodhaven Street Fair --

Until  next year!!
