We've covered the bandshell more than a few times on Project Woodhaven, most notably here and here. And we even had a separate page for our favorite 10 bandshell pics from last year. And, of course, we covered an array of events last summer all of which can be found in our 2009 Archives. So when news came down that the bandshell -- particularly the seating area -- was getting a renovation, we were very happy. But we were disappointed that it wasn't going to be ready by Summer 2010.
Recently we heard rumblings that it would be ready by August. Skeptical is a good way to describe how we felt. The last time we had passed by was a few weeks ago and it looked pretty desolate. But we picked up our cameras on Sunday and took a ride up to the park. Here's the sign that greets any Nosy Forest Parkers :-) As you can see, this effort is partly under the supervision of our own Elizabeth Crowley.
Here's a closer look at that plan -- the stage is at the left, and all those green circles are trees. It's not exactly the most realistic artist's rendering I've ever seen . . . but it's enough to give us the idea.
So, when we walked around the area Sunday we were pleased to see that some progress was being made. It appears that the last dozen or so rows are being replaced by bushes and a nice walkway. Here are some new trees that have been planted:
And here's the pathway we mentioned. You can really see this starting to take shape.
Here's another angle of the pathway -- with a glimpse of the seating area. They've left plenty of room for seats.
Here's a picture of that same tree from last summer. While it was nice to sit in the last few rows, if you did that you weren't there for the show :-) But comparing the pictures above and below should give you an idea of how much they are consolidating the seating area. More importantly, it should allay any fears that they aren't leaving enough room.
Another shot of the plant/bush area -- giving you an idea of how much extra greenery they are adding.
Here's a show of the seating area. The whole area is fenced in right now -- but it's a temporary fence.
Okay, so these were the pictures we took on Sunday -- May 16th. You want to see what a full day of progress looks like?
